"Depicted flying low as it skims the tall grasses at sunset, searching for a meal, this Barn Owl, one of my favourite species, was inspired by watching these beautiful raptors on summer's evenings near my home in Shropshire.
It was a joy trying to portray the bird in the best possible light, the echoes of her colours in the seed heads of the grasses below and the diffused background behind."

" My typical sighting of a woodcock, which happens about once a month for me, is a blur of wings and a long beak as it explodes from the leaf litter in my local wood. To actually be able to take the time to paint one is a considerably longer proposition. This beautifully camouflaged bird makes for a painstaking, yet ultimately rewarding study."

"The barn owl in flight is almost angelic. Soft, subtle, ghostly and silent. Yet for its prey, it is more akin to the angel of death. I often paint barn owls on perches, but rarely paint them in flight. However the angles and layers of their wings feathers and their ability to twist and turn their body and head as they search for their prey in the air, is often a thing of beauty."
